1. Research online listings, look for reviews.
  2. How many years in practice?  What is his or her philosophy of treatment?
  3. Check into active licensing through the Virginia Board of Counseling. 
  4. Come into the office and determine the connection you have with your therapist. It is fine to determine it is not a good fit.  Be comfortable with the therapist you choose.
  5. find out what insurance may be used or if it must be self-pay.
